Next Steps

Investing in our future.

Our primary goals with Nakweni Sisters is to empower women to recognize and embrace their value, and to work towards goals they set for themselves. Our group aspires to inspire other women and girls in the Maasai land in which Nakweni Sisters live, as well as women and girls who follow our story. We exist to empower women, grow dreams into reality, and create relationships that exude honor, respect, and love for one another.

Nakweni Sisters Team

Becoming sustainable is one of our primary objectives. We are striving to utilize our talents and skills to live purposeful lives and to create income so that we can send our children to schools, purchase solar lights, chairs to use when we gather together, and food for our families. These sound very basic, but these are very needed and important items to a group of people who have very few tangible possessions.

Nakweni Sisters hand beaded jewelry, belts, purses, décor, etc., is our primary business. We started with seven women and our group of artisans has grown to twelve. We then provided a loan to two additional groups of women known as the Goat and Chicken Women. Because of the extreme drought and disease, the animals perished. With a positive outlook and determination, the women decided to take a small loan and purchase maize and beans to sell. This is their current entrepreneurship. Under the Nakweni Sisters business umbrella, our goal is to empower and employ 100 women in the next twenty years. We want them to follow their dreams, be it a business opportunity or providing scholarships for girls to attend university classes. Remember, we had our very first university student this past year. Happiness completed her first year at the university and we are so very proud of her!

Our first university student! Your support has made this possible.

How is this all possible? We have great faith in God, work together as a team, and have people like you who support us. The earrings and jewelry the women make come to the United States and are sold in five small Host Shops, as well as online via social media. The purchase of these $10-$25 earrings, etc., go directly back to the women. They receive 100% of the sales. The women have been taught and practice a business model that involves saving, investing in their village, reinvesting in their Nakweni Sisters business, and caring for themselves and their families. We look forward to sharing about our next Big Step!
