Village Center-
Grateful to our supporters & Sunnybrook Church for helping us to achieve this goal!
On the road to setting and achieving goals, we met in the shade of the big tree in the warmth of the early afternoon. Some sat on the few outdoor chairs we own and others on the parched and dusty ground. It is a process that travels from our hearts and minds, through translation from Maasai to Swahili to English and back. All listening intently even though we may not understand the words until they reach our ears in our native tongue.
Our desire is to help better our village—for the people of our village. Through a partnership and the generosity of the people of Sunnybrook Church in the U.S., we have been able to build a small general goods shop. Here we sell the basics; maize, sugar, salt, beans, dried fish, oil, etc.

Miriam Oscar of Life Support for Change, has taught us about managing a business. She has taught us about goal setting, working as a team, finances, and most importantly the ability of women to be empowered to set and achieve goals. Becoming sustainable is a dream we have for the Nakweni Sisters. Miriam meets with our team regularly and is an inspiration and role model.

Our shop provides the people of our village area the opportunity to purchase items they need during the week rather than having to wait to walk the long distance to the Maasai Market on Saturdays. It also has become a gathering place for the adults and children of our village.

With our shop being a community center, we have discovered the imperative need for a restroom facility. Our village currently has no plumbing or community latrines. We are fervently working to raise, earn, and save funds to be able to make this a reality. This is necessary for health and sanitation. We welcome your support in this endeavor, something so basic yet so needed.
