Nakweni Sister Janet

Janet’s heart was captured by the genuine friendship and love offered by the wonderful women of Nakweni. The Nakweni Sisters partnership wasn’t anything planned for, rather it is was something orchestrated for this group of women who live half a world a part. It was a “God Moment” that has grown through the years.

Janet was part of a mission trip to Tanzania from the US and spent time engaging in conversation with the midwives of the group. Following their time together, she was gifted a beautiful pair of vibrant orange and yellow beaded earrings. Six months later, Janet returned to Tanzania and spent time in conversation about life, being women-mamas, daughters, wives and grandmothers-with the group in Nakweni. The women shared laughs, tears, struggles, hopes and dreams with one another. This is where the idea to help market the hand beaded Maasai jewelry came about. These busy women were also very talented artisans!

Now this is pretty humorous according to Janet, as she generally doesn’t fit the profile of someone who would be in the “jewelry and fashion business”. She shops and wears pre-loved/worn clothing. Added to her now signature look is her favorite Nakweni Sisters hand beaded belt. It is a multi-colored staple in her wardrobe. Janet also loves wearing Nakweni Sisters earrings and wrap bracelets everywhere she goes. She does have a huge heart for others and her devotion to these women and their sisterhood is evident. This passion to come alongside others fuels her desire to assist the Nakweni Sisters in achieving their goals.

As a mom and grandma herself, Janet understands the passion and love behind a heart that wants the best for their loved ones. She works to share the women’s story, provide opportunities for people to purchase Nakweni Sisters items, make donations, and become involved with sharing this story of women supporting women.
